Touring
There are several ways to tour. Most people are familiar with the fully escorted coach tour where everyone stays at the same hotel, eats breakfast together and then board the coach for a days touring often to be a new hotel each night. These tours are available in a range of luxury with some designed for older and some clientele.
One does not have to hop on the bus to be on a tour. Some tours are self guided. You get yourself from point A to B and take a set of preselected tours at your destination and then move on to the next city or area.
One can travel fully independent as well. With this option, and often with a good guide book and hand full of maps the independent traveler can navigate of on their own.
Of course not all destinations are equal when it comes to touring options. The less language friendly the locale the more fully escorted tours will appeal even to the most independent of souls. China and other far eastern countries come to mind as tour friendly environments for most westerners. Likewise many Americans think nothing of grabbing the kids and taking off cross country for a summer vacation.
